Detail information
Kopitović winery is located in Donji Brčeli, a village just 7 km from Virpazar and 18 km from the Adriatic coast, in the Lake Skadar region. This family-run winery, with a winemaking tradition spanning over 500 years, is dedicated to producing red wines from indigenous Montenegrin grape varieties.
The Kopitović family has been cultivating vineyards since the 15th century, with their current vineyard covering 1.5 hectares. Situated at an ideal altitude of 300 metres, the estate benefits from a favourable climate and abundant sunshine, perfect conditions for grape growing.
The house features a 300-year-old cellar traditionally used for the production and storage of wine and brandy. This tradition continues today, complemented by the application of modern technological methods, ensuring the long-recognized quality of Crmnica wine remains unchanged. The wine is produced in limited quantities to maintain high quality.
Wines of Kopitović winery
Kopitović winery produces high-quality wines that reflect the unique character of the Crmnica region. Among the most notable wines are these:
- Poskok – A dry red wine made from the indigenous Vranac grape variety. Named after the poskok (vipera ammodytes), a viper native to the Crmnica area, this wine is known for its distinctive strength and flavour, with notes of ripe dark fruit and dried plum. It pairs perfectly with game, red meat, and marinated fish.
- Šćepan Mali – A premium red wine crafted from Vranac, Kratošija, and Lisičina. Deep ruby in colour, this wine boasts a rich flavour profile and complex aromas developed through ageing in oak barrels. Šćepan Mali pairs wonderfully with game dishes, red meats, local specialities, and mature cheeses.
- Sojak – A dry red wine produced from Vranac and Kratošija. Characterised by a rich taste and delicate floral notes reminiscent of rose, this wine is ideal for enjoying with goat cheese, olives, fried carp, and dried bleak.
