Located on the Savina hillside above Savina Monastery in Meljine, Herceg Novi, our estate—once known as Villa di Meljine in an old Venetian Land Register from 1753—has a deep-rooted connection to viticulture. Inspired by this history and our love for wine, my wife Gordana and I returned from London 17 years ago to plant vineyards on our property.
Today, we cultivate two hectares of vineyards with international varietals (Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Chardonnay) and the indigenous white grape Žižak, similar to Dubrovnik’s Malvasia. With southern exposure and spectacular sea views, the estate produces wines with a light, breezy, summer style—our Chardonnay, Rosé, and even reds embody this character.
Initially making wine only for ourselves and friends, we entered the market in 2014, producing no more than 20,000 bottles annually, focusing on the Bay of Kotor, the coast, and a small circle in Belgrade. We aim to stay small, preserving the estate’s charm while reviving and renewing the locality.
In partnership with Savina Monastery, dating back to 1030, we recently planted vineyards on its grounds to craft wines dedicated to this sacred place. Winemaking here is both a privilege and a purpose: to honor tradition, preserve the land, and give greater meaning to this special place.
