Detail information
Ljutica winery carries a deeply rooted family story centred around Vranac, the indigenous grape variety that symbolises Montenegrin wine culture. While part of this story was once told through vineyards on the plains of Vojvodina, its full circle now closes in Crmnica, where the Ljutica family continues to honour their winemaking heritage.
Crmnica is one of Montenegro’s four historical sub-regions (nahijas), and it played a significant role in Montenegrin history. Many national heroes, commanders, and dukes trace their origins to this area.
Today, Crmnica is home to 22 villages, each offering unique cultural and tourism experiences. Thanks to its ideal altitude and abundant sunshine throughout most of the year, Crmnica is considered Montenegro’s premier wine-growing region. It is the birthplace of Vranac, the country’s flagship grape variety, which has been cultivated in the Skadar Lake basin since the 14th century.
The winery Ljutica is located in the village of Podgor – Ovtočići, in the Crmnica region, where the soil, climate, and sunlight create ideal conditions for cultivating red grapes. Their wines are the result of centuries of dedication and respect for the origin of the Vranac grape.
The vineyard in Bekov Krš covers 0.6 hectares and cultivates Kratošija, Lisičina, and, of course, Vranac. The wines are produced in small batches and aged in a family setting that embraces nature and authenticity.
