Kula Popović Vineyard and Winery is located in Zeta, in the village of Mataguži, on the shore of Skadar Lake and near the argeological site – Illyrian town Oblun. The Popovic family owns 15 hectares of exceptionally fertile land. There are 6800 grapavines, Kratošija, Vranac and Cabarnet.
Kula Popović is protected as a cultural heritage of the city of Podgorica with its walls that are several centuries old. The border with Turkey was near the tower until 1912.
During the Second World War, the Zeta’s population was hiding in the walls of the Kula.
The house was owned by Rako Popović Marić, president of the municipality of Zetska Banovina during the reign of Yugoslavia.
Stevan Popovic, with his brother in his family estate in Kula Popović, continued the tradition of wine making over 150 years. Their goal is to create a serious brand, superior quality.
In the Kula Popović winery, annually, they produce about 3000 liters of wine and 1000 liters of brandy.
The first bottled and labeled wine of this winery is from 2016.
In this winery, they produce wine from indigenous varieties Vranac , Cabernet and Kratošija, and there is the label of the top quality red wine Barrique.
